Rodrigo Godá
Rodrigo Alves Borges, in art Rodrigo Godá, was born and lives in Goiânia, the capital of the state of Goiás, but maintains a studio in Pirenópolis, a famous colonial city located in the valley of the Serra dos Pirineus, a region classified as Cerrado and internationally known for its peculiar flora and fauna.
The surrounding nature is a key theme of his work, in which he focuses on representing the relationship between this majestic environment of forests, animals and waterfalls, and the technological progress surrounding it. He does so by using a variety of techniques, drawing and painting, sometimes in black and white (nankim and oil paint), sometimes in colour (oil paint, acrylic, watercolour and colour pencils). His work is intensely detailed, showcasing his incredible artistic skill and the time needed to produce the carefully organized composition of each single original painting. Influenced by a variety of artistic movements, such as Pop Art, comics, folk and indigenous craftsmanship, Rodrigo encompasses mostly a surrealistic view to his art, having engaged with the works of many successful artists of the Surrealism period in Brazil, like Maria Martins, Tarcila Amaral, Cicero Dias and Roberto Magalhaes.
Rodrigo Godá has participated in multiple exhibitions in and outside of Brazil and his work has been recognised by many collectors, including the iconic Gilberto Chateaubriand, who owned the largest and most important collection of modern and contemporary Brazilian art. His works were also exhibited in 2019 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Italy, and can be viewed at some of the Brazil’s most illustrious museums such as the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
